Resources

If you’re like me (concerned for the environment, don’t think animals should suffer or that their bodies or labor are ours to steal), you probably spend a lot of time wondering “is this vegan?” “is that cruelty-free?” soooo here are some great resources for answering those questions (I will be adding to this list):

Vegan Claws: Vegan Nail Polish Resource – This is my go-to resource always, always, always. She really does her research and has contacted a lot of companies personally. (plus you should follow her blog because she’s fabulous)

Vegan Beauty Review: Cruelty-Free Company List – For all cosmetics, not just nail polish

PETA: Beauty without Bunnies Databases of Cruelty-Free Companies and Companies Known to Test on Animals – Okay I want to be perfectly clear that I DO NOT SUPPORT PETA. I just don’t. I think they use sexism and scare tactics to intimidate and manipulate people and that their animal treatment record of shady at best, murderous at worst. That being said, they do have a fabulous resource for searching companies with and without records of animal testing.

Vegan Make Up: Vegan Beauty Brands List – I love this list because it’s ONLY entirely, 100% vegan brands. For all cosmetics, not just polish.

I’ve also done some investigating on my own. Here’s what I know so far:

(listings in italics indicate cruelty-free but not entirely vegan product line)

  • Julep – Cruelty Free but NOT Entirely Vegan (their reds, pinks, purples contain carmine)
  • Jesse’s Girl – Cruelty Free but NOT Entirely Vegan (I’m yet to find any polishes in the stores that aren’t, but I’ll keep you updated on that)
  • Fandom Cosmetics – Cruelty Free AND Vegan
  • Incidental Twin – Cruelty Free but NOT Entirely Vegan (reds, pinks, purples contain carmine – just contact Sam if you’re wondering about a specific polish, she is very helpful)
  • LynBDesigns – Cruelty Free AND Vegan – (note: some of her non-polish products are not vegan but all her polish is)
  • The Balm – Cruelty Free but NOT Entirely Vegan

  • Cameo Lacquers – Cruelty Free AND vegan
  • KB Shimmer – Cruelty Free AND vegan

Here’s my list of current knowledge about GEL POLISH:

  • Nubar – Cruelty Free AND Vegan (this goes for all of their products)
  • Fingerpaints – Cruelty Free AND Vegan (this goes for all of their nail polish products)
  • Salon Manicure by Color Club – Cruelty Free AND vegan (this goes for all of their nail products)
  • Red Carpet Manicure – Cruelty Free BUT they have not confirmed vegan-ness of their product (I messaged them on facebook and was told that they were looking into it for me, but I haven’t heard back again so I’d be weary of using any of their polishes, especially the reds)
  • Lacquer Envy – Cruelty Free AND Vegan
  • Lala Gel Polish – Cruelty Free AND Vegan
